man-questioningI not sure I know what to do next…

As men we are very linear thinkers. We like a step by step way of doing things. For example how many times have you opened a big bag of parts, immediately saw some that obviously went together only to find that you must connect part D to part E AFTER you assemble parts A, B & C if you don’t want to use a hammer to make them all fit. We want to be able to see the whole path before we take the first step. We want to know the result of each step and understand how that is moving us to our destination. This is how “short cuts” often put us on dead end roads.

Satan knows this and trys to help us fail by letting us do things out of order or in our own understanding.

Jesus instructing 12 men on how to get to heaven

Consider John 14:3-7: Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know[b] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

Jesus was gathered the 12 men he was planning to entrust his ministry to after he left this Earth. He was telling them he was about to go to the Father, prepare a place for them and then he would be back. At the end of the instructions he says to them “and you know the way there”. But these knuckleheads wanted a clear cause and effect kind of picture. They wanted a blueprint of the house Jesus was building for them, an address, something they could put in the GPS.

Their linear thinking got in the way. Jesus was telling these guys to follow the WAY he had demonstrated to them over the last three years. He wanted them to look beyond their flawed cause and effect thinking and to see that being his disciple was the WAY. They were stuck on things like

Unfortunately this was not the last time Jesus had to straighten them out on this matter; take a look over a few of pages at Acts 1:6.

How to Live Happily Ever After

In my book 21 Days to Happily Ever after, I outline nine the responsibilities of a husband. I wrote this book to provide a roadmap and step by step guide to becoming the husband your wife can not resist. I want husbands to become to their wives like Christ is to the church (Ephesians 5).  No husband operating in these responsibilities has ever reported anything but happily married. That’s right 100%.   But…

Everyday I get calls and emails from guys that will say something like “I did everything you told me to do in chapter 8 (Lover) and she is not acting like the lover I need”. Hmmmm, have you completed the work in the remaining chapters? No well perhaps you should stay on the path; keep working on being the husband God has called you to be; let God do what he has promised and, then let’s see where you end up.

It’s a lot like wondering why you have not lot the entire 40 pounds on the diet you started a week ago.

Bottom line Christ calls us to being a good Christain husband. This call has little to do with our ability to see the results or how our wife behaves. We follow the WAY and he will take care of the results.
