Marriage Stronger

Marriage Stronger, Christ Centered and Happily Ever After

When is Enough, ENOUGH?

by: Chris Broughton

Many married couples are struggling today with the feeling that are not getting back what they put into their marriage. They are tiered and want to simply thrown up their hands and say “Enough is Enough, I give up”.

So when is enough, enough?

Here is a letter I answered from a husband that was having that very struggle:

Dear Jim,

You passed me a question a couple of days ago.  Since it has been a couple of months since you stopped coming to our mentoring sessions, I was glad to hear from you.  I am a little worried however, by your question.  It seems you are ready to give and file for divorce.

In your note you asked:  I have to ask you a question: It’s a hard one so think about it…  If two people love each other, but they just can’t seem to get it together, when do you get to that point of enough is enough?

On the surface [...]

Is this as good as it gets?

Five things that will take you from “Good as it gets” to “Happily Ever After”

Have you ever asked yourself, “Is this as good as it gets”? If you have, you can bet your spouse has wondered the same thing. You are not sure if perhaps you have fallen out of love or even worse you want out of your marriage altogether.  As B.B.King would say “The thrill is gone”.  You and your spouse may have tried the romantic-get-away-weekend. But you spent good bit of the time arguing about where to have that special “romantic dinner” or worried that what you were doing was not special enough to rekindle the fire. Date night has become errands without the kids and supper at the same tired old restaurant you have been to a million times. Perhaps you have seen a counselor [...]

Following the call to live happily ever after

man-questioningI not sure I know what to do next…

As men we are very linear thinkers. We like a step by step way of doing things. For example how many times have you opened a big bag of parts, immediately saw some that obviously went together only to find that you must connect part D to part E AFTER you assemble parts A, B & C if you don’t want to use a hammer to make them all fit. We want to be able to see the whole path before we take the first step. We want to know the result of each step and understand how that is moving us to our destination. This is how “short cuts” often put us on dead end roads.

Satan knows this and trys to help us fail by letting us do things out of order or in our own understanding.

Your Christian Walk and the Speed Limit

speedoGod showed me a number years ago that my cavalier attitude toward the speed limit was disobedience and therefore willful sin. So now-a-days I set my cruise on what ever the speed limit is and try to never break the law.
I spend quite a bit of time on the expressway commuting from my home in Seymour Indiana to Indianapolis (about 70 miles north). Because of my conviction to never break the law and therefore break faith with my Lord Jesus Christ, I get passed a lot. I have often wondered if the lawless behavior was unique to a certain demographic of people group. Perhaps younger adults or sports cars were the culprits.  Maybe is it just older men with sour looks on their faces or soccer moms trying get all the shopping done before school lets out.  Nope, it seems that [...]

Daniel Fast – Recipe (Vegan Tuna Salad)

If you are doing the Daniel Fast you are likely on about day 8 or 9 of 21 and are starting to get short on non-meat recipes.   I hope and pray that you are not running out of spirit for the fast.  I hope you are journaling you journey through the fast and are recording all the great things God is showing you.   Be sure to be praying for an answer – God is interested in what you are interested in and wants to here your prayers.

I tried this Vegan Tuna salad the other day and it was pretty darn good.  Here is what I did:

1 can of chickpeas – well drained.  I just a pastry cutter to slice them up in a large stainless bowl.  You could use a fork to do this as well.  The idea is to “Flake” it up like you would a can of Tuna.

Mice up a couple of stalks of celery [...]

Daniel Fast Recipes

Each January a number of people enter a time of fasting and prayer, asking God for direction in the new year.  Often this is done for 21 days in January and is modeled after the diet that Daniel ate when he was praying for answers from God (Daniel 10).    It took the angel of the Lord 21 days to get to him because he was resisted by the devil on his way.  We fast meat, sweets and perfumes for 21 days and ask God to reveal His will in a certain matter.  The lack of meat leaves a lot of folks hungry.  The fact that few of us follow a vegetarian diet makes it hard to find alternatives.

God asked me to fast meat more than 15 years ago so the Daniel Fast is for the most part is my daily meal plan.  I usually try follow a Vegan diet during the 21 days of the Daniel fast.  So [...]

The Three Stranded Cord

The following is an excerpt from my new book “The Book of Agreement” from out later this year.   This book is written to help married couple live in unity and agreement.  The book will provide instruction about how to come into agreement and how to stay that way.  I believe most if not all marital strife is solved when couple learn this very important skill.  I believe God will provide blessing beyond your imagination when you come into unity through Bible based agreement within your marriage.

Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12 Reads:

Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor
If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.

Mature the vision

I encourage men to journal.  This is how you can know where you have been, where you want to go and how God has moved you along the path.  Here is something that happened in my life today as a result.

Today I read a journal entry from May 26, 2001; it read “God is showing me a garden and asking Gay and I to work it.  The Garden may have weeds and poison ivy and it which may irritate you at first.  But stay with it.”

Today our vision for this garden is much clearer.  We know we are called to help married couples live happily ever after.  We know that call is a vineyard name “Forty-eight percent”.   God has promised that we will see the divorce rate  below 48% in our lifetime.  Big promise.

So how did we get from working in a garden over run with weeds and thistle and poison ivy in 2001 to pruning the vines [...]
