Day 11 – Heal our Nation

The God of heaven will give us success

I answered them by saying, “The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding, but as for you, you have no share in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it.

Nehemiah 2:20

I allowed myself to be discouraged recently. It seemed the more I called for folks to humble themselves and pray for the healing of our land, the more “yeah but” I got. It was clear to me that we have forgotten who it is that we are to humble ourselves before and who will do the healing.  Virtually all the pushback I have been hearing is rooted in some version of how we are lost and without hope unless the government does something.  This makes me sad because we have made God so small.

Then I read the prophets, Ezra and Nehemiah. Each of those men had seen Jerusalem wrecked, burned down and the house of God defiled and abandoned. The homes, people, and happy life they enjoyed were seemingly destroyed. All of their freedoms, customs, and rights canceled and, in some cases, made illegal.  This is the fear that many of us walk in today and worse some have come to accept it as the new normal. I think that acceptance as normal and the series of “yeah but” is rooted in our not understanding who God is, what His will is, and just how powerful his will is. 

If you are feeling any level of frustration, contempt, or anxiety over what is transpiring in the world today, please consider answering the invitation to humble yourself and pray. Jesus tells us that the tough stuff can be brought to pass only when we fast and pray [Matthew 17:21].  I want to encourage you to fast and to pray. Specifically, I want to call on you to fast listening to any kind of news for a period of time while you pray.  Do not listen to any of the normal chatter telling you how bad things are… just for a day or two or ten… while you consider who God is, what his will is, and how powerful he is. 

Also, read just the first two chapters of Nehemiah.  In that short reading, you will see a man living a pretty good life but as a slave. When we realized that his home, culture, and country were in ruins, it grieved him. He first fasted and prayed, then God moved the King to grant his heart’s desire.  Do you want real change? Do you want to see want healing in our Nation? This is the ONLY way it will happen. The 2022 midterms will have no effect if God is not in it. Not even the Supreme Court will overrule the will of God.

Chris attended Indiana University where he met and married Gay. He graduated with a BS in Elementary Education in 1980. In 1999 Chris and his wife Gay co-founded Genesis 2-24 Ministries in Seymour, Indiana where they currently live. Genesis 2:24 Ministries is a marriage ministry whose mission is to "Restore Marriage to the Honorable Place described in God’s Word". They do this through individual pre-marital and marital guidance, small group education and community events. Since the inception of the ministry they have seen God do miraculous things in the lives of the couples. We have noticed that few couples actually want to be divorced, they simply do not know how to live happily ever after. We want to provide ideas and tactics straight from the Bible that if applied will lead to marital bliss. We want nothing more than to see the Word "divorce" be taken out of our language.
