Day 16 Heal Our Nation

Seek His Face

We have been praying 2 Chronicles 7:14 for our nation for some time now.  In this often-used scripture, God calls us to pray for our nation and promises to hear us from heaven and heal our land. An important part of the call for us to pray is that we seek his face. But what does it mean to seek His face?

Think of looking for someone in a crowd. Usually, you have to have seen them before if not you will need a picture to help you recognize them when your seeking succeeds. With that image in, mind (or in hand) you begin to seek. You eliminate the faces that do not match your image until you see that familiar face for which you are looking.  You then walk up to them and present yourself and let them know you have been looking for them. Only after this contact is made can the communication begin.

For me personally searching for someone in a crowd is difficult. I am easily distracted, and my eyesight is not the best.  My prayer life can be affected in the same way. I may start out with good intentions of hearing from God and seeking his will in my life. The next thing I know rather than hearing what God has to say and agreeing with him, my attention is on a new fishing rod or how I am going to fix the garage door.

Seeking his face is perhaps the most important thing we can do to the healing of our nation. James 4 tells us that “You do not have because you do not ask God and when you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives.” I think we are too often distracted by the circumstances around us and want to tell God what needs to be fixed.  If we would seek his face, we would hear God tells us what needs to be fixed and how he will do it. If we will seek to know God, he will share his plan with us.

I want to encourage you to begin to seek to know God and His plan for us, our families, and our nation. Know Him, hear him, and agree in prayer with Him. Don’t be distracted by what you hear from people that that is not God saying about right and wrong. Be bold, be strong allow God to speak to you, and allow yourself the liberty to believe it. Focus your pray on God’s word not the word of man.  When we seek His face he will hear us from heaven and Heal Our Land.

Chris attended Indiana University where he met and married Gay. He graduated with a BS in Elementary Education in 1980. In 1999 Chris and his wife Gay co-founded Genesis 2-24 Ministries in Seymour, Indiana where they currently live. Genesis 2:24 Ministries is a marriage ministry whose mission is to "Restore Marriage to the Honorable Place described in God’s Word". They do this through individual pre-marital and marital guidance, small group education and community events. Since the inception of the ministry they have seen God do miraculous things in the lives of the couples. We have noticed that few couples actually want to be divorced, they simply do not know how to live happily ever after. We want to provide ideas and tactics straight from the Bible that if applied will lead to marital bliss. We want nothing more than to see the Word "divorce" be taken out of our language. Chris Enjoys: reading (often with Gay) backpacking, fishing, playing guitar, riding the motorcycle (always with Gay) and playing with his grandson Lucas (the game doesn’t matter).
