2/7/24 – Update on Gay’s healing

God is a miracle-working God. I know this from my personal experiences and from how he is working in this present season. Here are some real examples:

  • The Doctors said we should amputate Gay’s leg to cure the disease. But GOD told us to be faithful, so we mustered the strength to tell the trained professionals, “You may know how this usually goes, but our God says we will be restored.”
  • Gay is being given an outrageous amount of medicine. But GOD says we are sent into all the world to witness his goodness.  So, Gay never misses a chance to tell anyone near her that Jesus is the only answer they need, and He will see her through. Sometimes, she witnesses the very person delivering a bad report or telling her that vital signs indicate she will become even more sick. “I understand what you are saying, but MY God is bigger than.” She reminds them.
  • Gay has endured two surgeries, four days in the ICU, then another 12 in the hospital, where the reports kept telling us things were going wrong. Before each surgery and at the beginning of each day, God has sent intercessors holding Gay up to the Father. Each report is met with “Thank you, Father, for what you are doing and are about to do.” His arm has never been too short. The progress of her healing has been miraculous, and the reports have changed to be good and encouraging.
  • I nearly lost his standing as a patient man dealing with the “system,” going home alone without the love of his life every night for the last 43 nights and not knowing the outcome of Gay’s illness. Each time I bottomed out and was ready to question God, there were some who would lend me their faith, understanding, and support. Thank God for the household of faith and the fellowship of the burning hearts.
  • The costs are staggering, the situation is real and dangerous, and finding time and inspiration to be alone with God is difficult. But GOD is doing amazing things to lighten our emotional weight, meet our spiritual needs, and help us find resources for the obscene financial cost.

Some Specifics:

After talking with the doctors, I promised to provide a detailed update today.

God has been providing healing in the following areas.

  • The kidney problems have disappeared.
  • The infectious disease doctor has decided to cut the IV meds in half, and they will end altogether on 2/13.
  • Gay is doing very well in Physical Therapy, and we hope to be able to go home safely on 2/14.
  • The external fixator (a downright gruesome device attached to Gay’s left leg) will be removed on 3/11 and replaced with a cast.
  • On or about 3/25, Gay will undergo the final surgery
  • After about six more weeks of healing, she will be able to put weight on her left foot for the first time since December 2024.

Want to help?

  1. Please continue to agree with us in prayer that this healing will be a complete restoration of function for Gay.  We are on this long road, and it is likely the tallest mountain we have ever climbed in our 45 years together. We cannot do it without your prayer support.
  2. If you think of us, drop us an email or text.  We might be slow in response, but your encouragement is appreciated.
  3. Pray for our ministry. We have continued helping marriages as we manage through this healing process but in a limited way. We have been able to finish publishing a book in January and write marriage applications for Married Couples Small Group Bible Studies. We have not been able to do fundraising so please continue to pray for the financial health of the ministry. We hope to be back doing ministry full-time this Summer.
  4. We will need help with some upcoming ministry opportunities. Pray about how you can help us, and let us know.

Thank you for your kind support in this season of our life. We praise God for you and hope to fellowship with each of you very soon.

Praise be to God.

Chris attended Indiana University where he met and married Gay. He graduated with a BS in Elementary Education in 1980. In 1999 Chris and his wife Gay co-founded Genesis 2-24 Ministries in Seymour, Indiana where they currently live. Genesis 2:24 Ministries is a marriage ministry whose mission is to "Restore Marriage to the Honorable Place described in God’s Word". They do this through individual pre-marital and marital guidance, small group education and community events. Since the inception of the ministry they have seen God do miraculous things in the lives of the couples. We have noticed that few couples actually want to be divorced, they simply do not know how to live happily ever after. We want to provide ideas and tactics straight from the Bible that if applied will lead to marital bliss. We want nothing more than to see the Word "divorce" be taken out of our language. Chris Enjoys: reading (often with Gay) backpacking, fishing, playing guitar, riding the motorcycle (always with Gay) and playing with his grandson Lucas (the game doesn’t matter).
