Introduction (1-3 John):

These books are attributed to the Apostle John due to their style and vocabulary.
John was an eyewitness to Jesus and the early church.
These letters are written to the church to provide guidance on the way of Christ and how to follow it. Further, to identify our walk and the walk of others.
3 John explicitly addresses that we are to be hospitable to those who share our love for God
1 John was written in 85-90 AD when John was living in Ephesus; 2 John about 5 years later, and 3 John may have been written before John left the Island of Patmos.
John may have been the youngest of the twelve who walked with Jesus.
John likely died of old age in Ephesus after he was released from captivity on Patmos—the only apostle to die peacefully and not as a martyr.
