Marriage Application - 1 John - 3John
Introduction (1-3 John):
- These books are attributed to the Apostle John due to their style and vocabulary.
- John was an eyewitness to Jesus and the early church.
- These letters are written to the church to provide guidance on the way of Christ and how to follow it. Further, to identify our walk and the walk of others.
- 3 John explicitly addresses that we are to be hospitable to those who share our love for God
- 1 John was written in 85-90 AD when John was living in Ephesus; 2 John about 5 years later, and 3 John may have been written before John left the Island of Patmos.
- John may have been the youngest of the twelve who walked with Jesus.
- John likely died of old age in Ephesus after he was released from captivity on Patmos—the only apostle to die peacefully and not as a martyr.
