Introduction:

James is the brother of Jesus. Some say half-brother because he would have a different Father. But the point is, they were raised here on Earth by the same mother and father.
This Book was written before 50 AD, so it is an eyewitness writing
James was likely named Jacob or Ya‘akov in Hebrew.
Verse one tells us two important themes of the book. 1) James considers himself a servant of Christ. 2) He is writing to encourage those who, in the troubles of following Christ, have scattered. We are reminded of the promise that all will be gathered to Christ when he returns.
The book is short but very pointed. It should be read slowly and digested completely. During this study, take your time, but understand that a second reading on your own will bring you greater understanding of the message from God presented by James.
